Registered Nurse: A Career Research Report
Nursing is an occupation that I feel would really fit the person that I am. I love helping other people and making them feel better. I am a big people person and would love to either save a life or simply just make someone feel better when they are ill.
I would say my interest level for this career is pretty high, just about a 9 out of 10. I’ve given a fair amount of research for this career by talking to those majoring in this career as well as online research, and talking to counselors for guidance.
In nursing I will be aiding those who are in need, from a sick child to an adult who seeks serious medical attention. My work environment would predominantly be in a general hospital or a local clinic. I would be surrounded in a fast paced environment by other patients, nurses, assistants, and the big decision makers – doctors.
In order to persist in this career, one must be very patient, caring, responsible, organized, and have the ability to make quick decisions and wise decisions because someone’s life and health is in your hands.
In order to be a registered nurse you must take all the required courses for the major as well as enroll in a nursing program so you could get your Bachelor’s degree. Usually a registered nurse gets an average salary of 56,000+ at an entrance level. Doctors, which require a few more years of schooling (pre-med school), on average get 62,000+ as well as OBGYNs!
Currently, I need to continue completing the required GE classes to transfer out of the college that I’m attending along with my major classes that are equivalent to the classes at the desired school I want to go to.
As long as I stay focused, maintain good grades, pass my licensing exam, I will obtain my nursing degree and start helping! I was aware of most of the information that I read online but I wasn’t aware that most students that go straight into pre-med school freak out about their grades and cannot afford a C in their transcript. A C in their transcript is like murder for the rest of their school career. Overall, I am still pretty interested in this career because it is something I’ve always been interested in. Becoming a doctor seems way too hard and much more time consuming so I don’t think I am too interested going that far.
